Incline Village/Crystal Bay struggles to survive
Our community is struggling to survive. On Tuesday, February 23rd at or before 2:30 PM the Washoe County Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing on regulations that will allow essentially every residence in Incline Village and Crystal Bay to be converted into a “hotel” as defined by Nevada statute in Chapter 447. This may be your last opportunity to stop the ruination of our community. Public comment can be made via Zoom. Suggest you log in a little before 2:30 to this link https://us02web.zoom.us/j/87913013655 Use the Chat Box to let the moderator know you want to speak on item 16 – Public hearing on short term rental regulations. Just a brief comment (3 minute max); let the Commissioners know where you live (IV/CB) and how you’re affected by STR’s.
The Board of County Commissioners was initially scheduled to hear these regulations last August, but the meeting was cancelled allegedly because of problems with Zoom. Members of the community were hopeful that their pleas had been heard. Such is not the case. The County dusted off the same old proposal and now it appears they will approve regulations that have fewer protections than ones proposed over a year ago when Goliath STR proponents – owners, STR managers, lobbyists and even the big guns like Airbnb, overpowered little David, this small unincorporated community of only 8000 or so full time residents.
